VGIF cordially invites you to a CSW63 Parallel Event: Creating Shared Strategies for Sustainable Development

Background: The growing body of research that has developed since the Economist proclaimed in 2016 that women are “the world’s most underutilised resource” reinforces the premise that economic empowerment of women can significantly boost productivity, reduce employee turnover, and promote the sustainable development of consumer markets. It has also brought to light that a multi-stakeholder approach is essential to achieving meaningful change as the 2014 World Bank Report “Gender at Work” highlights - “Overcoming gender inequality will not result from specific isolated programs, but from a comprehensive approach that involves multiple sectors and stakeholders” In a similar vein, in its recent report, the Oak Foundation recommends “an integrated approach to addressing the underlying structural barriers to women’s economic empowerment”. In this multi-stakeholder and integrated approach strategy, the role of Grassroots Women’s Organizations (GWO) as key partners cannot be stressed enough. VGIF believes that by partnering actively with grassroots women’s groups we will create sustainable solutions to address gender inequity.

Objective: The objective of the workshop is to have an open dialogue to discuss shared goals and opportunities that will help forge stronger partnerships. With this in mind, VGIF will hold a multi-stakeholder workshop, bringing together donors, women’s groups, and international NGOs to share best practices and develop common strategies to improve social protection systems, access to public services, and sustainable infrastructure to advance economic empowerment and development of women and girls.
