Non-profit organizations meeting the criteria below may apply for a project grant. Grant applications are accepted from May 15 to July 31 in each calendar year. Grants are awarded in April of the following year. From August to April, our Projects Grants Committee reviews all the applications and submits a selected number for approval by the Board of Directors at our Annual Meeting.
A project under consideration must adhere to the following funding criteria:
Proposed project addresses empowerment of women and girls, especially their social and economic empowerment
Proposed project is clearly planned, reflects community/target group participation in the development and design of the project, and is ready for implementation.
Project proposal contains a realistic timeline of activities.
If products will be produced, project proposal contains a sales plan.
Project proposal presents a budget with a clear explanation of all budget items; the amount proposed for funding by VGIF must be no more than $7,500.
Project proposal addresses sustainability of project after VGIF funding, especially prospects for outreach to maximize community participation.
Project proposal has clear monitoring and evaluation plan.
Proposed project will lead to action and positive change.
Women are well represented in the leadership, staff, and project management of the organization proposing project.
Organization proposing project demonstrates ability to manage resources and funding from external sources.
VGIF encourages applications for projects which promote the interest of women and girls in studying science and technology.
Funding for our project grants come from our contributing members, donations, and from our endowments.
A generous endowment from one of our contributing members pays the majority of our administration costs.
